Episode 16: Should Everyone See a Cardiologist?
Recognizing Your Need for a Cardiologist
“What does the timeline look like for a patient’s relationship with the cardiologist?” Kevin O’Connell asks Dr. John Nayda, Interventional Cardiologist at Trinity Medical WNY. Basically, is there a certain age that you should start making regular visits to a heart doctor? Dr. Nayda explains that a patient’s relationship with their primary care provider usually acts as the gateway to cardiac care. Family doctors often take regular blood pressure measurements and cholesterol profiles, which are the two most significant ways to get a read on heart health.
Of his patient philosophy, Dr. Nayda notes, “I was always trained to listen to the patient first.” He recognizes each patient’s role in the decisions they make about their body and healthcare.

As far as, if and should everyone who’s over 40 should see a cardiologist, despite what I would love to say, the answer is no. Not everyone needs to see the cardiologist if you feel okay.
But I think if there’s any question about heart palpitations or heart rhythm problems or chest pain, or “I just don’t think my cholesterol levels are good enough,” then yes, they can swing by and see us. We’d be happy to take care of them.
