Mercy Hospital Foundation’s Heart Smart for Life (HSL) program was recently presented the prestigious Shining Star Award by the AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation. The award was presented in November at the Connections for Cardiovascular Health Sustainability Learning Forum held during the American Public Health Association’s 2019 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA.

Offered at the Mercy Comprehensive Care Center (MCCC) on Louisiana Street in Buffalo, Heart Smart for Life is a free community wellness program focused on preventing heart disease and stroke. It is one of eight programs nationwide currently being funded by AstraZeneca HealthCare Foundation.

Jeanne O’Hara, HSL Program Manager and Office Manager at MCCC and Kathy Bragagnola, HSL Social Worker, traveled to Philadelphia to accept the award. During the forum, they presented a short film showing how the Heart Smart program is helping patients better understand their cardiovascular health.
