Catholic Health received the region’s highest overall safety scores in the Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade Report for spring 2022. Kenmore Mercy received its 17th consecutive “A,” the most in New York State, while Sisters of Charity Hospital increased from a “B” to an “A” since last fall’s report. This national distinction recognizes Kenmore Mercy’s and Sisters Hospital’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm.

What is the Leapfrog Group?

The group strives to promote transparency in healthcare quality reporting, by grading hospitals from “A” to “F” on how well they protect patients from medical errors, infections, and other preventable harm.

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Group uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign a letter grade to hospitals across the U.S. on their overall ability to keep patients safe from preventable harm. In the Spring 2022 report of more than 2,800 hospitals, 33% earned an “A,” 24% earned a “B,” 36% earned a “C,” 7% a “D” and less than 1% an “F.”
