To better meet the treatment needs of patients with behavioral health disorders, Catholic Health has implemented a Psychiatric Pharmacy Clinical Consultation Service. The program offers psychiatric pharmacotherapy review and consultation services to manage behavioral health medication regimens, mitigate adverse drug reactions, and plan for transitions of care.

Courtney Jarka, PharmD, BCPS, BCPP, is leading the consultation service. Board certified in Pharmacotherapy and Psychiatric Pharmacotherapy, Dr. Jarka graduated from D’Youville College School of Pharmacy before completing post-graduate residencies at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo and Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Richmond, Va.

A native of Lockport, NY, she returned to Catholic Health in 2019, helping to introduce clinical pharmacy services at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, including developing a hepatitis C clinic and a Pharmacy Residency program. She also serves as a site coordinator for psychiatry and behavioral health/substance abuse rotations for Catholic Health’s Pharmacy Residency Program.

“Dr. Jarka adds a new dimension to our clinical pharmacy services,” said Ed Swinnich, Director of Pharmacy Services for Catholic Health. “To help integrate her psychiatry training into our system, she has been working at Mount St. Mary’s Clearview Treatment Services to expand clinical pharmacy services in the hospital’s inpatient substance use disorder treatment center.”

Dr. Jarka provides psychiatric pharmacotherapy review and consultations throughout Catholic Health, including acute, long term and primary care.
