The New York State Department of Health (DOH) is partnering with Catholic Health to provide temporary emergency services in eastern Niagara County until the health system’s new Lockport Memorial Hospital opens this fall. The DOH approached Catholic Health to develop an emergency services solution to close the gap in care after Eastern Niagara Hospital announced it was closing its doors in June, ahead of the opening of Lockport Memorial.

While construction of the new hospital continues at a record pace, officials at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston are developing an innovative approach to support the local community by opening a 24/7, free-standing emergency department at 5875 S. Transit Rd. in Lockport, currently the site of Eastern Niagara Express Care.

This full-service emergency department will be equipped and staffed to treat and stabilize patients throughout the region. As plans are underway to convert the urgent care center into an emergency department, Catholic Health is meeting with area elected officials and Emergency Medical Services providers to share more details about the project.
