Health and Science Academy students from St. Jude/Bishop Timon High School participate in Career Exploration Day at Mercy Hospital, sponsored by Volunteer Services.

Health & Science Academy Partners with Catholic Health Volunteer Services

This school year, Catholic Health has been the host for several groups of local high school students, participating in healthcare career exploration programs through a partnership with the school’s Health & Science Academy and Catholic Health Volunteer Services.

Through the partnership, students have an opportunity to participate in both tours and hands-on activities in a wide variety of healthcare programs.

So far, they have had the opportunity to watch Mercy Flight land, discuss and witness first-hand the day in the life of a paramedic, explore the amazing advancements of medical imaging with a radiologist, spend time on the Cardiac and Vascular Intensive Care Unit, hold specimens preserved for teaching in the lab, learn the critical role of  hospital chaplaincy, and work side by side with a number of nurses, physician assistants, and other clinical and non-clinical associates throughout Catholic Health.

Every summer hundreds of teens from across Western New York are invited to also participate in a hands-on volunteer experience designed with the participant in mind. Through this program students explore future careers in healthcare, learn new skills, create new friendships, and provide a valuable service to the their community.

Catholic Health Volunteer Services  is proud to be a partner in designing the future of healthcare! If you are a teen who will be at least 14 on or before by July 1, 2019, please consider volunteering for at a Catholic Health facility near you this summer.
