Catholic Health has long supported the professional development and career advancement of its associates. Today at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, in partnership with Trocaire College, the health system awarded 14 fully-paid scholarships to members of its workforce, continuing its commitment to create opportunities for associates to achieve their personal and professional goals.

“Catholic Health has been working tirelessly on recruitment and retention to ensure a more stable and skilled workforce,” said Joyce Markiewicz, Catholic Health President & CEO. “We are proud to invest in highly sought after opportunities that will enhance the quality of care our system is known for and bring value to our associates.”

The partnership provides funding for associate degrees and advanced credentials from Trocaire College in Registered Nursing, Licensed Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Medical Sonography (Ultrasound). By emphasizing the development of local talent within Catholic Health, the health system aims to fill disciplines challenged by ongoing health profession shortages following the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Trocaire is pleased to provide opportunities for Catholic Health employees to further their careers and meet their education goals,” said Dr. Bassam Deeb, President, Trocaire College. “In line with the Sisters of Mercy, our mission is to be the beacon of hope for those who want to take a chance on themselves and make a better life for their family. This partnership with Catholic Health is a great way to offer educational access to those already in the healthcare profession.”

Catholic Health associates will enroll at Trocaire College for the two-year degree programs beginning with the 2024–25 academic year.
