Now, more than ever, people are taking an active role in their health, by knowing their health history, researching their conditions, and making healthcare decisions with their physicians. Having your patient health information available in a secure, convenient location allows you to access medical records, test results, and health history at any time, day or night.

What are Patient Portals?

So much of our lives has become technology-based, and doctors’ offices and health systems are no exception. They too have made the switch from paper records to secure, electronic-based platforms.

Often referred to as patient portals, these electronic medical record systems provide you with a look at your health records while serving as another mode of contact for you and your physicians. Secure messaging within the portal can directly link you to an office, providing a safe, easy, and convenient way to schedule appointments, ask/answer questions, request prescription refills, and update contact information. Functionality may vary from portal to portal and office to office, but the main purpose is consistent — to keep you connected to your health information.

Catholic Health Connect

Catholic Health’s patient portal, Catholic Health Connect, links patients with information related to care received at one of Catholic Health’s hospitals. After logging in, a dashboard provides a quick glimpse at the various pieces of health information available. Discharge instructions, lab and x-ray reports, medication information, allergies, and doctor notes are all available with just a couple of clicks or taps to view, download, and/or print.

If you’re looking for something and don’t see it in your records, the portal offers secure messaging so you can send and receive emails with the Health Information Management Department (Medical Records). Links to pay your bill, get financial assistance, apply for insurance, find a doctor, or explore additional services offered by Catholic Health are all located within the portal. You can also access reliable health education information to help you better understand complex medical issues.

Peace of Mind

Doctor office visits and hospital stays often come with a lot of information to remember. Through the use of patient portals, you have a reliable source available 24/7 to refer back to when needed. Additionally, actively engaging with your patient portals on a regular basis allows you to make sure your information is accurate and complete, and to notify your physician if you have received a new diagnosis or something needs to be updated. Staying connected with the information you need, from the people you trust for care, can empower you with knowledge and ease uncertainty.
