Buffalo, NY – Catholic Health is pleased to announce that Catherine R. (Kate) Mohr, RN, DNP, NEA-BC, has been named Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). This is the first time the health system has had an executive-level CNO.

“As a nurse myself, I knew there was a critical position missing on our executive team to lead one of the largest segments of our workforce,” said Joyce Markiewicz, Catholic Health President & CEO. “With more than three decades of nursing leadership experience, Kate has the knowledge and credentials to be a trailblazer in this new senior leadership role for our system.”

A member of the American Association of Nurse Leaders, Mohr most recently served as Chief Nursing Officer at Dosher Memorial Hospital, a Critical Access Hospital in Southport, North Carolina. Prior to that, she served as Executive Vice President/System Chief Nursing Officer at the Guthrie Clinic, a five-hospital healthcare system serving an 11-county area in North Central Pennsylvania and Upstate New York.

In addition to providing leadership direction to advance professional nursing practice throughout Catholic Health, she will oversee Care Delivery Services, including Quality & Patient Safety and Clinical Education. She will work directly with the system’s Vice Presidents of Patient Care Services, nursing teams, and other system leaders to promote nursing excellence, improve quality and patient safety, and increase efficiency in patient care services across the system’s hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and ambulatory and outpatient centers.

Mohr began her career as a Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care nurse at Westchester County Medical Center. She later rose through the management and executive leadership ranks at Duke University Medical Center, Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center, and Providence Alaska Medical Center. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the College of New Rochelle, her Master’s in Nursing from Duke University, and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from American Sentinel University.

“Kate is an accomplished nurse executive and we’re thrilled to have her join our system and ensure the needs of our Nursing and Patient Care Services teams remain a top priority as we work together to set the highest standards for quality and patient safety in our community,” Markiewicz added.

Mohr will be relocating to WNY and will assume her new role in late July.
