Catholic Health Names Dr. Basem Goueli Director of Hematology & Medical Oncology

Basem S. Goueli, MD, PhD, MBA, has been named Director of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Catholic Health. Having directed three independent cancer institutes, representing 17 hospitals and 12 cancer centers, Dr. Goueli brings a wealth of experience to Catholic Health. He has been an institutional principal investigator in nearly 100 clinical trials involving breast cancer, myeloma, prostate cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, ovarian cancer, head & neck cancer, and esophageal cancer, among others. His work has appeared in leading medical publications, including The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet.

Dr. Goueli received his Medical Degree and PhD from the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at George Washington University Hospital and National Institute of Health, and a Hematology/Oncology Fellowship and Bio-chemistry Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Stanford University. He earned his MBA from at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received several professional certifications from MIT.
