As a former religious order missionary, I understand how important it is to be compassionate and caring. My experience in the LIFE program through Home and Community Based Care at Catholic Health tells me they understand that too.

As a missionary, I worked very hard for more than 20 years, serving the poor in areas such as Harlem and New Orleans. I left the order to return home to Buffalo and care for my elderly mother. When she passed, I found I needed to now take better care for myself. That’s when I enrolled in Catholic Health’s LIFE program.

I participate in the LIFE program two days a week and they never miss a beat. Aides are assigned to me to help with everything I may need from PT, OT and medical care, to activities, exercise, prayer services and entertainment. I have never felt so taken care of as I do by Dr. Amy Becker, who oversees any medical concerns I may have. Additionally, Marilee Burns-Abbey, the recreation director, is so creative with planning activities we enjoy, like dancing, which I love! I feel so lucky to have a place to socialize; the LIFE program is my outlet. That is why I want to recognize Dr. Becker, Marilee and the entire Home and Community Based Care staff.
