For the fourth year in a row, Catholic Health’s Mercy Nursing Facility (MNF) at OLV has been named a “Top Performing Nursing Home” by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). This designation places the long term care facility affiliated with Mercy Hospital of Buffalo in the top 5% of nursing homes in the state.

To receive this recognition, nursing homes must achieve top quintile performance in the state’s Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) for the last three consecutive years. Designed to improve the quality of care for residents in Medicaid-certified nursing facilities, the NHQI awards points for various performance measures, including annual inspections conducted by the DOH. Mercy Nursing Facility was one of the first nursing homes in the state to receive a deficiency-free inspection under new regulations and a revised survey process adopted by DOH late last year.

In addition to this statewide recognition, Mercy Nursing Facility also received the following national awards for excellence in quality and resident satisfaction:

  • The “Embracing Quality” Award, presented by Providigm, a provider of quality solutions for the healthcare industry, recognizes top performing nursing homes in the United States and Canada for their outstanding commitment to quality care and customer satisfaction.
  • The 2017 “Excellence in Action” Award, presented by the National Research Corporation (NRC) to skilled nursing facilities that achieve overall resident satisfaction scores that fall within the top 10 percent of the NRC database, the largest in the United States.

“Collectively, these recognitions speak volumes about the quality of care we provide and the satisfaction of our residents and their families have with the care and services they receive,” said Patricia O’Connor, Executive Director of the Mercy Nursing Facility. “These achievements are also a reflection of the dedication of our entire staff, who treat each resident like family and work together as a team to provide the very best care.”
